Gambia: IT education

Many Gambian youths leave education early due to a lack of financial means or pregnancy. A number of skills centres have since been created where youths can obtain vocational training. For the IT area, a joint venture was entered with the NICE organisation, who provides IT education in so-called NICE (internet) cafes. Youths can follow a basic IT course, but also applied courses for secretarial work, tourism & travel and IT. The project consists of two parts: developing a portfolio of IT training courses, and offering scholarships to poor students. The courses will start in 2008.
