Tanzania: CLASSworks - Computer education in secondary schools
While ICT innovations come at breakneck speed in the West, ICT implementation in many African countries is still in its infancy. This isolates the continent and hinders (international) growth and development. According to Net4kids partner Viafrica, the focus should lie on ICT education in secondary school, teaching pupils to implement ICT locally in a practical manner. Viafrica attempts to achieve this with its CLASSworks projects. The CLASSworks programme is focused on providing computer education in secondary schools in remote parts of East Africa.
Thanks to the support of Net4kids, Viafrica was able to open an IT service centre in Kisii, Kenya. This IT service centre provides services to schools in the field of computer and software maintenance and ICT training. Net4kids covered the costs of the workstations, servers, printers, modems and cables for the IT service centre, including transport costs for the hardware, and implementation and training costs for local personnel. A total of 2111 girls and 693 boys were supported by Net4kids.
