Pakistan: Madular Healthcare Centre
In Pakistan, most poor children can barely afford good healthcare, if they can afford any at all. The reason is simple: most parents are on a low income, the cost of medical care is high, and access to healthcare centres is limited.
The Madular Education & Welfare Trust (MEWT) therefore strives to raise funds for a healthcare centre in Karachi where poor children and local inhabitants can access cheap medical care. There are other small healthcare centres in the area, but they are too expensive, only open late at night, and/or difficult to reach.
The healthcare centre to be founded by MEWT is readily accessible, and meets the needs of poor children in general, and specifically those of handicapped children from the existing MEWT centres: the Madular Educational Centre (MEC) and the Madular Rehabilitation Centre (MRC). This project has been delayed, and will only start in mid July 2008 due to the political unrest in the country. Net4kids has raised funds for a doctor's room, a nursing space, a waiting room, a pharmacy and a 'wet room'.
