India: Loreto Street Children integrationIn Calcutta over 100,000 children have no roof over their head. The girls in particular risk abuse and violence every day. The project to integrate street children provides shelter and education within a private school together with children from the highest social circle. They take classes together, and learn from each other. A new society is created, cutting right through traditional castes. Thanks to this project by the Partnership Foundation, the schools offer the rainbow children more than shelter and security in a safe and stimulating environment; they also give their lives direction and teach them self-respect. And once children reach the age of 17, the schools pay special attention to preparing them for living independently. Net4kids supports children in three Rainbow Homes: Loreto Bowbazar, Loreto House and Loreto Dharamtala. By sponsoring a child place, costs of food, teaching materials and all related issues are covered. 343 child places are sponsored by Net4kids donors. 343 children have been given care and shelter in the short term. In the longer term, this means better opportunities.
