Nepal: Nepal Matri Griha Street children programMore and more Nepalese families are unable to provide their children with proper care and raising. Many live on the street. A lack of hygiene and rampant alcohol abuse are a danger to normal family life. Children from these families often cannot go to school, and have mental and physical problems (such as malnutrition). With the street children programme, our partner Nepal Matri Griha offers these children the chance to go to school. They are given everything necessary, including social support for the family at home. And they learn to actively contribute to their situation. The schooling project for street children in Kathmandu not only allows children an education, but also provides them with all necessary items, from school uniforms and materials, to lunch, an extra two meals per week and medical care. Salaries for the teachers and maintenance costs for the school building are also covered. Net4kids supports training positions for children which include all of the above elements. The Nepal Matri Griha project has undergone strong growth in a short period. With the opening of a new building, 350 instead of 200 children were given shelter. This affected the project partner, who was there for the children 100%, but was unable to fulfil the agreements with Net4kids, particularly in the area of reporting. An extra visit to the project realigned various interests, and professional and personal contacts are now entirely as desired.
* Due to a change in the contract period to fit the Nepalese fiscal year, the budget is for the transitional period. Therefore, the budget is for 15 months instead of 12. |
