Brazil: Casa Nova Esperanca en Casa Betânia– Home for Street Children*

Casa Nova Esperanca is a shelter for street children in Rio de Janeiro. The goal to acquire a new home for Casa Nova Esperanca was not achieved in 2005, as the ownership of the new house remained unclear, while the government had demolition plans for the current location. In December 2006, a suitable house was found and bought. Additionally, Net4kids supported the following items in 2006: financing a street worker’s salary, paying out a 13th month for all REMER employees (34), acquisition of new furnishings for the Casa Betânia shelter, minor renovations for the Casa Betânia shelter. For the children, the most important step was buying the new home in late 2006. In 2007 it will actually be put to use.
