Ghana: Senior Secondary School
Ghana suffers from a major lack of secondary schools. The existing secondary schools are not accessible to the poor due to high tuition fees. This is also the case in Kumasi. This project’s goal is to build a secondary school for the children in Adukrom, Kumasi in Ghana. The school will be accessible to everyone, regardless of background; not only the children of wealthier families. This will offer poorer families a chance at a better future. Within a number of years, at least 300 children between the ages of 14 and 18 will attend the St. Paul’s Senior Secondary School – both boys and girls, with various ethnic and religious backgrounds.
The education will focus on three areas: Languages, Science and Economics. The building will have 12 classrooms, including a library, laboratory and computer lab, spread over two stories. Thanks to a special school campaign by the Candea College in Duiven (the Netherlands), the first floor and one room on the second floor were completed. Net4kids helped raise the funds to complete the building, which has been delayed until September 2007 due to unforeseen conditions and problems during construction.
